Easter Long Weekend

Happy Easter to those who celebrate, and Happy Friday to everyone else!

I must say, having a long weekend is a pretty fabulous feeling that I missed during the winter.

Today was one of those incredible days, where I just felt like I could do anything I wanted and not have to worry about being in a hurry. This morning, I ended up at the only Gap in town that was open (typical, I know) and picked up this dress. Perfect for work because I always feel like a lot of my dresses are too low cut for meetings!

This afternoon, I got my nails done and had a really great workout at the gym. I'm keeping it low key tonight, and will just be catching up on some blogs and watching a movie.

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow, because I'm having a girl's weekend with a couple of friends. We're heading down to Buffalo for the day, and cracking open some wine and having a slumber party at night. Can't wait!!

Cargo Vest

Can we just stop for a second and ask ourselves a serious question? HOW IS IT APRIL 15th AND STILL SNOWING???

Seriously. I just can't do it anymore! It was so warm out yesterday that I was driving with my window down. This morning, I had to scrape the ice off my car. (Insert pity party here)

Nevertheless, I left for work this morning wearing my spring trench coat, and carrying my bright coral purse. Sure, I had 4 shirts on underneath the coat, but at least I wasn't about to give in and wear the ol' down jacket. Yes, I'm stubborn, but I don't care.

In addition to being stubborn, I'm also weak and totally willing to admit it. When I feel like my closet needs something specific, I can't help but cave into the temptation.

I mean, it was only a matter of time before I got a cargo vest. You already know that I love vests, so it's just plain logical that I'd need to add this bad boy to my collection, right?

Wait...don't answer that.

Dusting Off The Flares

I have a bit of a weird complex when it comes to getting rid of things. It's not like I'm anywhere close to being a hoarder, but I struggle with getting rid of things sometimes, even when it's a bit ridiculous. Shall I elaborate?

Before I entered the corporate world, I spent a number of years working at a family-owned boutique, whose primary focus was premium denim. This was an amazing time in my life, and I have a lot of good memories from the days at the store. I also accumulated quite the collection of jeans, as you can imagine.

It's been a few years since I worked at the store, and while some of my jeans are still in rotation, many of them are collecting dust in my closet. Some of them don't fit, and some of them are a bit out-dated looking.

Every time I do a closet purge, I try to get rid of some of the jeans I know I'm not going to wear anymore...but I always struggle to let them go! I really don't know if it's because they're tied to memories of the good ol' days, or if it's just because I hate giving up expensive things. Regardless, the issue is definitely there.

But. It's not always an "issue."

I've been noticing that wide-legged and flared jeans are back in style, which means I've been eager to wear them again. Instead of going out and buying a pair, I remembered that I had some in my closet that I haven't worn in years.

Lesson learned. Don't get rid of stuff.

Bare Legs...Sort Of

I'm happy to announce that it's finally starting to feel like spring around here!

The temperature was in the low 50's yesterday, so I went for my first outdoor run of the season. It was amazing! I love having the option to run outside, because as much as I want to work out regularly, I just find it really hard to get myself into that gym. I know I'm not alone in that feeling.

I always get a good workout and leave completely drenched in sweat, but it's never fun to do cardio in the gym. Let's face it - there's nothing interesting about running on a treadmill. NOTHING. I watch TV, listen to music, do interval training, and all of the other tricks to pass the time, but it will never compare to the real thing.

Another way I've been embracing the warm(ish) temperatures is by rocking the bare legs, if wearing a maxi skirt counts. I say it counts!

I've only been a fan of the maxi skirt since last summer, so this was the first time I've ever styled it in cooler weather. I feel like it's an idea I'll continue playing around with...especially if it continues being too cold to show just a bit more leg.

Pinking of You

What a week it's been!

I've had requests and opportunities flying my way at work this week, which is awesome...but makes me wonder if I should consider a second coffee during the day.

Right now, I'm working on a project with a very design focused client, who's in the midst of re-branding. They realized there were some materials they should have held onto in order to make some decisions, so on a whim, I decided to rush downtown and drop them off. It was the end of the day, so I figured I'd go home from from there.

But. Let me remind you of something. I don't actually live in Toronto!

I say that I'm from Toronto, because most of you aren't. The assumption is that if I mentioned the actual suburban town I live it, no one would have any idea what I was talking about. I think a lot of us do that.

Anyway, instead of my typical commute from Mid-town (which to me, it totally "the city"), I had to trek home from the west end of the downtown core. UGH. Just another reminder that I am so not a city person. Aside from having no clue where to find a subway stop when I'm slightly off the beaten path, it's just too crowded and chaotic for me! I never said I was your typical twenty-something, okay?

I act like an old woman sometimes, so maybe that's why I love grandfather cardigans so much? I picked up this one about a month ago, and have worn it a lot. It's the perfect transition piece and I see it being a great add on with shorts and a tank on a cool summer evening.

Photos were taken by my bestie - Samantha. Thanks for being my photographer!!

At Least I Had My Hat

You know those times when you realize that you made a big mistake when you got dressed that day? Well, I had one of "those" instances this weekend.

I went down to the Toronto Festival of Beer on Saturday, which was at a venue that's partially outdoors. I had only been outside for a minute or two that day, so I thought that my thick sweater was enough to keep me warm in the weather that was a few degrees above freezing.

Friends, this was not the case.

I wore my favourite floppy hat, thinking that (and the beer) would be enough to keep me warm. I quickly realized how big of a mistake it was, but it was too late.

Sometimes, it's fashion over function and the fashion won this round. While I had my cardigan buttoned up a few minutes after getting to the venue, I was rocking my graphic tee, which I love. If you're wondering, this tee was last seen here.

A lot of random people asked me if I was cold...and if I wasn't one of the most awkward people ever, it could have been a great conversation starter to meet some boys. Apparently, it's easier for me to talk for hours on end about what sweaters I love, and how to accessorize, but I'm pretty sure that's not how I get anyone to ask me on a date!

I've gotten a lot less "timid" about taking blog photos since I first started blogging (almost) a year ago. If you're a fashion blogger as well, I know you can relate to that feeling!

I still remember sharing this story last summer, when a lady wondered what I was doing with my camera and tripod in the trail behind my house. Things have changed since then, and I don't just mean the photography.

These days, I really just shrug off the confused stares I get when people walk by and see what I'm doing. It's sort of hilarious, actually. I'm still waiting for the day when I encounter someone doing the same thing, and then we can be instant blogger BFF's.

In one of my more recent photo-shoots, I had a new first: The Post Man photobombed me!! I was just doing my thing, and saw the truck and just continued what I was doing. Then, I was looking through some of my shots, he yelled out, "did you get it?"

Totally awesome.
